For Chris Schanz, interacting with people has always been the foundation of a fulfilling career. As a strategic account executive, Chris’ main focus is his relationship with members. He educates members and helps them implement the best plan design for their organization.
“The most rewarding part of my job is when I’m able to provide a member group significant savings on drug spend,” says Chris. “I pride myself in being able to identify an area where they’re currently lacking and demonstrate how they can improve and see results.”
By combining his training and experience in account management and the health care field, Chris has acquired an ability to be visible and stay relevant— making him a major asset to National CooperativeRx and our members.
Chris did not always envision a career in pharmacy benefits. He recalls choosing UW-Green Bay as a freshman because of their highly regarded art program. After falling into the account management field due to a friend’s suggestion, Chris realized he had a knack for it.
“I find the flexibility and travel aspect of my job more appealing than being confined to a desk every day. Having the ability to go out and establish relationships with our members is definitely what motivates me,” says Chris.
When asked to name three traits about himself, Chris chose “trustworthy, a calming influence and a family man.” He credits the first two traits to his Eagle Scout ranking that he earned as a teenager. Only four percent of Boy Scouts become Eagle Scouts, the highest honor in Scouting.
Outside of the office, Chris loves spending time with Francie, his wife of almost ten years, and their three children, Everett, Meredith and Carson.
