If someone told Matt Dengel five years ago he would currently be a strategic account executive, he wouldn’t have believed it. Enrolling in college to become an elementary school teacher, Matt switched his major to psychology. After working in the health care field at a large hospital in Madison, WI, the opportunity at National CooperativeRx presented itself.
“My family owned several pharmacies throughout my childhood and my wife is a pharmacist, so I was familiar with the industry and terminology,” says Matt. “However, account management was new to me when I started at the Cooperative.”
After being referred for the position by a colleague, Matt instantly became intrigued. “I like interacting with people and knew I had the work ethic and time management skills needed to excel in this job,” explains Matt. “What motivates me every day is finding ways to reduce pharmacy benefit costs and optimize value for plan participants.”
When asked his favorite part of working at the Cooperative, Matt says his co-workers top the list. “The team effort and collaboration in our office is unmatched,” says Matt. “I’ve always worked with nice people, but not necessarily for nice people. Having a great relationship with your boss like I do now makes my job more pleasant.”
When Matt isn’t running performance reports or making plan recommendations, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Nicole, and their son, Finn. “I used to have hobbies, but now I have an 18-month-old,” jokes Matt.
When he does have free time, you can find Matt rooting for his favorite sports teams: Milwaukee Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers and Chicago Bears. Why the Bears allegiance from a Wisconsin native? “Just to be contrary,” says Matt.
